How this estimate is built
The calculator uses typical daily costs for lodging, food, local transport, and activities in each region, scaled by your chosen travel style and multiplied across your trip length and number of travelers. A 10% buffer is added automatically for the incidentals every trip has.
These are planning figures based on general regional cost levels, not live prices pulled from any booking site. Use the total as a sensible starting budget, then check real prices for your specific dates once you've narrowed down where you're going.

Does this include flights?
Only if you enter a flight cost yourself. Flight prices vary too much by route and booking window to estimate from a region alone — use the Flight Cost Estimator to get a rough range first.
Why is my region's estimate higher or lower than what I've seen online?
Regional estimates average across an entire region, which includes both expensive capital cities and cheaper rural areas. A trip concentrated in a major city will usually run above the estimate; a trip through smaller towns will often run below it.
